Six Awesomely Inventive Gadgets

by Chris Poindexter

The pace of modern life is a constant challenge and, luckily, our fellow human beings are a clever lot and constantly coming up with some really interesting and handy new gadgets. Whether it’s finding lost keys, a backyard sanctuary or a better way to clean up after pets, the world is full of marvelously inventive people.

Here are some of the more interesting gadgets that have surfaced lately.

Finding What’s Lost

The TrackR Bravo is a coin-size device that can be clipped or stuck on almost anything. Instead of expensive GPS services, most of which require a subscription, the TrackRBravo device will report itself to anyone who happens to pass within range also running the iOS or Android app. The device will also help you locate the lost item when you get within 100 feet or so. The device also works the other way as beep locater for keys and anything else you want to keep handy.

Luuup Cat Litter Box

Kickstarter is a great place to find new and innovative products, including pet products. The devices start shipping this month and, if you don’t mind waiting a bit, you can support budding entrepreneurs while making it a breeze to clean up after your cat.

Worx Switchdriver

Building and assembling with screws is more secure than nails but it’s sometimes a slower process due to the need to pre-drill holes. The Worx Switchdriver solves that problem with a rotating chuck that makes it easy to switch from drill to screwdriver and back again. With adjustable torque control and a 20 volt battery, the Switchdriver will hang in there on with you on that deck project.

The Cocoon Tree

It’s been awhile since anyone tried to reinvent the backyard fort or produced an updated tent for glamor camping. Meet the Cocoon Tree with an aluminum frame and waterproof fabric making it both high tech and totally cool looking. Using aeronautical grade aluminum, the Cocoon Tree looks flimsy but it can hold a respectable two tons of weight.

The GoSun Solar Oven

If you live near the beach you discover that most beaches don’t allow campfires. If you want to cookout on the beach that means hauling a grill and even those aren’t always legal. The GoSun Solar Oven uses the same technology as solar hot water heaters except for dry cooking. Setup is quick and easy and the heat is all internal so there’s no charcoal, propane or gas to haul around and you don’t have to worry about starting the next massive brush fire.

The Landroid Robot Mower

Back in the early 2000s I had one of the first robot lawn mowers (apologies for the poor video quality) and it worked surprisingly well. Our robotic grass overlords are still around and lately the prices have come down while the functionality has improved tremendously. Once you set the perimeter wire the mower pretty much handles the mowing. Every so often mine would get stuck in a small hole or rut but, most of the time, it mowed while I stayed inside where it was cool. The new ones have a rain sensor that sends them scurrying for cover at the first sign of rain.

Life is measured by things but, sometimes, the things that you do collect on your journey can make life much more convenient.
