It May Not Seem Like it, But Liberty Is Winning!

by Eric Lumpkins

Liberty is winning and its prospects are continually improving. It may not always seem like it, but it is, you just need to look in the right places. The government and big media want you to be cynical, pessimistic, and fearful; they want you to think the world is getting worse and worse, they don’t want you knowing that freedom is winning. They don’t want you becoming optimistic, excited, and inspired to create your own change, because that’s exactly what you should be doing.

Today’s Liberty Movement

No other philosophy on the planet has a grassroots and student-led movement as passionate, global, well-organized, and hardworking as does classical liberalism and libertarianism.

Take Students For Liberty, an international liberty non-profit, for example. SFL has campus coordinators and student groups on every continent and in almost every single country on Earth. Afghanistan recently had its first and very successful Students For Liberty conference. Brazil’s SFL helped spark a million man march that eventually got the corrupt Brazilian president impeached. Venezuela has student leaders fighting for their lives and basic civil rights. Ukraine, Africa, Russia, Europe, Southeast Asia, parts of China, Mexico, and many more countries all have their own liberty-minded student groups and conferences.

The reason for this is because the ideas of liberty are universal. It doesn’t matter the color of your skin, your sexuality, your culture, etc., everyone is capable of understanding the importance of individual freedom and a prosperous society.

Never before has liberty been more popular than it is today and the vast majority of this engagement is through young people. This is incredibly good for the prospects of liberty. The coming generations will be more and more libertarian-leaning.

We are currently in the very beginning stages of a massive revival of Austrian economics, classical liberalism, and libertarianism. And when we consider that: 1) technology continues to advance exponentially faster; 2) technology & global markets continue to make us freer and wealthier; 3) we live in the safest and most prosperous times in human history; and 4) governments worldwide are simultaneously buckling under their own weight, finding it harder to control their people, struggling to keep up with technology, and are being forced to gradually improve, it is abundantly clear that the future looks incredibly bright and optimistic for human freedom and flourishing around the world.
