While many Americans may have thought that civil disturbance has been dying down this summer, last week’s flareup has many rethinking that. With more shootings and killings now occurring as a result of protests and rioting, could the US be on the verge of a civil war?
Things really came to a head last week in Kenosha, Wisconsin, as 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse killed two leftist protesters. While Rittenhouse is being charged with murder by Kenosha authorities, videos of the incident that have made the rounds on the internet clearly show Rittenhouse firing in self defense when cornered by multiple attackers.
That doesn’t matter to Antifa and its Democrat sympathizers, however, as they’re just looking for any excuse to make mayhem. And in Portland they exacted revenge, seemingly gunning down a member of Patriot Prayer in cold blood. While police have identified a suspect, at the time of writing they have yet to take him into custody.
In response to the violence, Oregon Governor Kate Brown issued a statement that included the following: “Every Oregonian has the right to freely express their views without fear of deadly violence. I will not allow Patriot Prayer and armed white supremacists to bring more bloodshed to our streets.” The way the statement reads, it’s as though the Governor is blaming right-wing groups for violence, when in fact it’s Antifa and BLM that have been responsible for over three months of riots, and an Antifa member who gunned down a member of Patriot Prayer. But as usual, leftists in power are blind to the abuses caused by those on their own side, while they throw the book at their political opponents.
Right now only the most obtuse observer would fail to realize that leftist district attorneys across the country are openly engaged in war against the right. You can no longer trust that prosecutors will prosecute clear crimes. Rather, they’re going to take into account who is being arrested before deciding whether to charge them or not.
Look at St. Louis, where the prosecutor refused to charge those arrested for rioting and looting, while charging a couple who sought to defend themselves against an angry mob. Look at Kenosha, where Kyle Rittenhouse is being charged with murder, while those who tried to hunt him down and beat him aren’t even being charged. The message is clear: those on the left can engage in violence with impunity, but if anyone dares to defend himself against them, he’ll have the book thrown at him.
This bias on the part of prosecutors will further erode trust in the rule of law, as well as faith in the police, as police are working hand in hand with these leftist prosecutors to punish conservatives. And as respect for the rule of law erodes, more and more people are going to start taking the law into their own hands. The stage is being set for a civil war or a new revolution, and events in Kenosha and Portland may one day be taught in history books in the same vein as Concord and Lexington.
