If there’s one thing you have to give Democrats credit for, it’s forcing their views down other people’s throats. They’re not a party to live and let live, they’re a party that wants everyone to live the way they do, by force if necessary.
Enter Joe Biden’s nominee to head up the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). He’s David Chipman, a former ATF Special Agent. Since he left the ATF in 2012, Chipman has rotated through a number of gun control organizations, including Everytown for Gun Safety and now Giffords. Having him as head of the ATF would be putting the fox in charge of the henhouse.
Chipman’s position on guns can hardly be described as anything other than radical. He has no appreciation for the Second Amendment, not to mention that the purpose of the Second Amendment is to allow We The People the ability to defend ourselves against tyrants like him.
Chipman was part of the investigation into the massacre of civilians at Waco at the hands of government agents, an investigation which ended up whitewashing the events and absolving the government of any wrongdoing. Watching Chipman’s performance at his nomination hearing leaves no doubt that he wouldn’t hesitate to send government stormtroopers to kill gun owners just like ATF did at Waco.
Chipman, like most gun control proponents, has a penchant for story-telling and being fast and loose with the truth. He claimed at one point that Branch Davidians in Waco shot down government helicopters with .50-caliber rifles. Not only were no helicopters shot down, there’s also no evidence that the Branch Davidians even used their .50-caliber rifles.
It shouldn’t be surprising that Chipman purposely hypes things up in the way he does. After all, you can’t get people to support gun control without scaring them. But it would be an indicator of the type of leader Chipman would be. He openly advocated banning AR-15 rifles during his nomination testimony, even though he couldn’t define what an “assault weapon” actually is. In short, he’s an ideological fanatic who has one thing on his mind, banning guns, and he has no qualms about lying through his teeth to bring that about.
ATF has been without a permanent head for over six years, which doesn’t seem to have affected the agency negatively in any way. It would be far better to maintain the status quo than to nominate someone so obviously partisan and biased to such a position. Let’s hope that the Senate stands firm and fails to advance his nomination.
