Now that everyone has gotten over their fear of COVID, government authorities are looking for the next bogeyman to frighten us all into handing over our freedoms yet again. There was enough backlash against COVID overreach that the powers that be couldn’t achieve their goal of completely subjugating us. And now they’re looking for more excuses to keep us under their thumb.
That’s why you’ve probably seen more and more mentions of monkeypox in the news recently, as new cases have shown up in the US and Europe. The idea of any “pox” spreading is one that is likely to strike fear into the hearts of the timid.
It’s one thing to cough and sneeze with COVID. It’s another thing altogether to break out with sores or lesions all over your body. Many of us remember chickenpox, which wasn’t a lot of fun. But monkeypox is worse, even if it doesn’t rise to the level of smallpox.
What most articles about monkeypox fail to inform you about is the fact that human-to-human transmission of monkeypox is incredibly rare and doesn’t happen easily. It requires prolonged contact with an infected person or significant exchange of bodily fluids. And most people who contract the disease recover within a few weeks.
What you’re also not hearing is that the disease is spreading today mostly among gay men. And the current transmission is being linked to gay men who attended two raves in Europe.
So basically if you’re a gay man actively engaged in promiscuous sex with other men in the party scene, there’s a real risk that you could contract monkeypox at some point. But for normal people who live quiet, boring lives, the chances of contracting monkeypox are nearly nil.
That won’t keep the mainstream media from trying to scare the bejeesus out of us. But as long as you keep these things in mind, and realize that monkeypox isn’t really going to affect you, the easier it’s going to be to see through future mainstream media scare tactics as well.
